Charles Halpin, Operations
Charles
has more than 20 years of book publishing experience with companies
including McGraw-Hill, Macmillan, Berlitz and Reed Elsevier and
a strong record of developing products for CD ROM and Web media.
Most recently, Charles was the CEO of R.R. Bowker, Publisher of
Books In Print, Ulrich's Periodicals Index and Literary
Marketplace, responsible for developing Bowker's new generation
Web products, providing publishers with Web-based book promotional
tools for the retail, wholesale and library marketplaces.
Charles is also the Chairman of Pubnet, the book industry transaction
ordering system linking publishers electronically to the retail
book trade. He has served on the boards of the AAP (Association
of American Publishers), the BISG (Book Industry Study Group) and
the Executive Committee of the PSP (Professional and Scholarly Publishers)
in the United States, in addition to serving as treasurer and member
of the board of the DPA (Directory and Database Publishers Association)
in the UK and directors panel of the International ISBN Agency in
Berlin.
Charles has an MBA degree from INSEAD in Fontainebleau, France,
and a BA from Hobart College in Geneva, New York.
Carol D. Cooper, Marketing
Carol
spent more than 25 years in the international professional
publishing industry as a senior executive with various Reed
Elsevier database publishing units; most recently in its
LexisNexis division where she was Senior VP & Publisher,
responsible for strategy, product & business development, and
marketing. She led the development of destination web sites—lawyers.com
and martindale.com-- accompanied by marketing service products
designed for the law firms in the US, UK and Germany.
She began her career in college text publishing with St.
Martin’s Press and worked in-house in marketing and editorial
positions as well as on the road as a text book sales rep. In
later marketing and sales management roles with R. R. Bowker and
its international subsidiaries, she was involved in the library
and retail market distribution channels.
Carol has an MA in Literature from Syracuse University and a BA
from Colgate University.
Ben Ohtsu, Chief Technologist
Ben
is responsible for all aspects of Bookwrap technology. Ben is
the co-founder of BMM Art & Computer, a full service-software
development and consulting firm specializing in custom web
applications. Prior to forming BMM, Ben served as a Vice
President in the Corporate and Investment Banking Division for
Credit Suisse First Boston. In this role he was responsible for
directing the development of proprietary investment banking
applications in addition to managing the user support, hardware,
and engineering groups. He co-authored the solution for the
division's initial release of Microsoft NT, and was responsible
for its deployment to all corporate offices in North and South
America.
Ben graduated from The Cooper Union in 1991 with a degree in
Bachelor of Science in Engineering, and attended Columbia
University's Masters program in Computer Science.
Kimberly Martin, Webmaster
Kimberly
has been designing, maintaining and managing websites since
1998. She has completed many courses on website development
including CSS, Design, Writing for the Web, Website Promotion
and Search Engine Optimization. She is currently working towards
certification in Web Business and Web Programming.
In addition to website publishing she is also small press
publisher of poetry books and has written a program in VBA that
helps self-publishing authors to format their books.
