The Electronic Scene at BEA
MJ Rose's Wired column looks at e-publishing highlights from the convention. She cites the Open an eBook promotional campaign, the First Book National Book Bank online initiative, increasing excitement about Bookstream's Bookwraps streaming promotional videos, and Xerox's new color POD machine. Other e-vendors like RealRead reported to us having their best convention ever, even as the booths themselves were cause for less press attention. Palm's alliance with Overdrive (and another major initiative to be announced soon) is seen as a big step in making e-books more available to customers and the popular Palm format more available to publishers. And PreviewPort announced a strategic alliance featuring material from Book Magazine, Foreword Magazine, BookMuse.com, BookWrap and RealRead, to be channeled to libraries, booksellers, schools--as Bowker was promoting its new program with PreviewPort to distribute their content to library customers.
